Dan Aykroyd has said that he was once approached by a ghost in his bed while attempting to sleep.
The 71-year-old is most famous for his work in Ghostbusters as Dr. Raymond ‘Ray’ Stantz, and he also wrote the first two movies in the series while serving as executive producer on the final three adventures.
During an appearance at the New York premiere of the latest blockbuster, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, he told Metro.co.uk about his own eerie supernatural experiences long after the cameras stopped rolling.
When asked if he believes in ghosts, following his huge history of busting them, he told us: ‘I do! I think one got into bed with me in [an] estate in California, that I owned and lived in for a while.
‘I believe that something got into bed with me.’
Someone needs to get Dan his very own line to the Ghostbusters…
The Saturday Night Live legend couldn’t help going into further details, admitting that he waited for the ‘presence’ to make a move first.
He continued: ‘I never saw anything but I felt a mattress depress, the door opened by itself, and I’ve always believed that somebody was trying to cuddle up with me.
‘I rolled over and went to sleep. I waited for it to make the next move.’
Although the encounter would make anyone else run for the hills, Dan has continued to welcome ghosts into his life through his efforts on the legendary film franchise.
As well as writing the first Ghostbusters movie, he starred as Stantz, alongside Bill Murray, Annie Potts, Ernie Hudson, William Atherton and Sigourney Weaver in the original 1984 adventure – before reprising his role in the sequel five years later.
He went on to make a cameo in the 2016 reboot, before returning again in the Ghostbusters: Afterlife project two years ago.
Before the release of Frozen Empire, Dan talked about what keeps him coming back to the franchise multiple times.
‘I think the quality of the stories with the new writers, and just the fact we all have a good time doing it,’ he continued.
‘Audiences want to see it, they like to be scared, they love ghosts, humor and they love good quality, honest entertainment.
‘That’s what this is and that keeps us coming back.’
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is released in cinemas on March 22.
