Sharp-eyed Simpsons fans were unhappy to notice a rare error in a question about their favorite show while watching the latest episode of Jeopardy!
The The animated series has been on TV for over 30 years, with many episodes centered on Homer Simpson and his adventures with his wife Marge and their three children – Bart, Lisa and Maggie.
The series has become a regular feature on TV and still attracts large audiences for every new episode, with fans noticing every small prediction, plot inconsistency and Easter egg.
However, many were surprised to find a mistake about the animated series in Wednesday’s episode of the quiz show, in a question about Sideshow Bob.
Music executive Troy Meyer was given the question, ‘Robert Underdunk Terwilliger is the real name of this vengeful The Simpsons character.’
Troy got the question right and won $600, but fans noticed a problem with the question.
Kevin Sanders posted a screenshot of the question on Twitter and tagged Simpsons writer Bill Oakley, writing: ‘Onderdonk erasure. They’ll live to regret this.’
Bill confirmed the mistake, tweeting: ‘Yes @Jeopardy you made a rare mistake. It’s “Onderdonk”. And @Joshstrangehill and I are certain cause we wrote that script. Cc: @KenJennings.’
The official Jeopardy! account and Ken Jennings have not yet acknowledged the error, but fans admitted they also made a similar spelling mistake.
Bob Germanovich replied: ‘Wow, a Simpsons thing that both Jeopardy and I have continuously gotten wrong in exactly the same way.’
Chris Morgan joked: ‘Next thing you know they’ll be calling Bart’s teacher “Crandall.”’
Others revealed a misspelling in the subtitles on the show, sharing screenshots where Sideshow Bob was named ‘Robert Underdunk Terwilliger’.
‘I think closed captioning spells it with a U though,’ Patrick Lindsey shared.
Andrew Jordan added: ‘Interesting, because it’s spelled “Underdunk” in the subtitles. Maybe it’s because the line is spoken by Quimby?’
Will Sideshow Bob ever get justice?
Kelsey Grammer, who voices the iconic character, has appeared on the Celebrity Jeopardy! spin-off in the past, along with Martha Stewart, Jodie Foster, Ashton Kutcher and Ray Romano.
But Emma Stone is upset that she has never been invited to take part in the main competition, despite applying every year.
Emma Stone expressed her love for Jeopardy! during an appearance on Variety’s Award Circuit Podcast, and said she wants to ‘earn her stripes’.
‘That’s my favorite show,’ she told the host. ‘That’s my dream, I apply every June.
‘I do not wish to appear on Celebrity Jeopardy! I truly wish to prove my ability'
‘I want to participate in the regular Jeopardy! but you need to pass the test and you are only allowed to take it once a year using your email address.
‘So every June, I take the quiz and they do not inform you about your performance. They just tell you, “We will inform you in the next nine-12 months if you made it to the show.” You know what, I have not made it to the show.
‘I watch it every single night and note how many answers I get correct. I believe I could compete on Jeopardy!’
