Thaksin Shinawatra came to Chiang Mai at 9.30am using his private airplane and was greeted by many of his followers, called red-shirts. He came out of the airplane wearing sunglasses and a neck support, accompanied by his youngest daughter, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the leader of the Pheu Thai party.
After arriving in Chiang Mai, Thaksin will go to the Royal Park Rajapruek and then go to Mae Kha Canal to observe the ongoing dredging.
He will then go to Nong Khiao Reservoir to check the construction of a public exercise facility by a local administration organization.
In the evening, he will visit the Mae Sa River in Mae Rim district.
Tomorrow, the former prime minister and his family will pay their respects to the Khruba Siwichai monument before going to Tat Doi Suthep Temple to pay respects to the deities of Chiang Mai.
Later, the group will tour Warorot market, which the Shinawatra family always does when they visit Chiang Mai. At noon, they will have lunch at the famous egg noodle or “khao soi” Samerjai food shop on Charoenrat Road in downtown Chiang Mai, before going to the Mae On cemetery, to pay respects to Thaksin’s parents, Lert and Yindee.
They will then travel to Rongtham Samakkhi Temple in San Kamphaeng district to make merit for their ancestors and to visit Thaksin’s relatives at the Shinawatra house.
On Saturday, he will have morning coffee at Oasis coffee shop and then go to the Night Safari Zoo before returning to Bangkok.
