Gabriel Martinelli has labelled Arsenal teammate Ben White a ‘warrior’ and insists every other team wishes they had the defender in their squad.
White signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal on Thursday and has been lauded by his manager Mikel Arteta as well as his fellow players.
The 26-year-old right back, who can also be deployed as a centre-back, has massively impressed for the Gunners this term, especially in recent weeks.
White has been adapting to a new role and is moving in and out of midfield more regularly to link up with Bukayo Saka.
Alan Shearer feels White is becoming a ‘huge part’ of Arsenal’s attack after he provided two assists in the 2-1 win over Brentford in their last top-flight game.
In the match before that – White scored in the 6-0 victory over Sheffield United – and the Englishman has now been rewarded with a new deal.
‘It’s great news that Ben is committing his future to the club,’ Arteta told the Arsenal website.
‘Ben is a key player for us, a top professional with a winning mentality, and one of the guys who leads by example every day.
‘Ben’s ability, determination and positive attitude are so important, but he is also a great character and human being. We all look forward to continue working with Ben in the coming years.’
Several Arsenal players then paid tribute to White in a video posted on the club’s social media accounts.
‘Every team would love to have a Ben White in the team,’ Martinelli said. ‘He’s a warrior.’
Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard added: ‘I think when you look at him from the outside you might think he’s someone who doesn’t care too much.
‘But he’s one of the guys who cares the most about the team and about his teammates. I would say [he is] a warrior. He trains so hard. A proper team player. He’s always there for you when you need him in the fight.’
