Musician FKA Twigs FKA Twigs has said being abused 'changed her nervous system'.
The Cellophane singer, 36, was previously in a relationship with actor Shia LaBeouf, 37, and after their split made serious accusations of abuse in their relationship.
He has denied 'each and every allegation,' which includes both physical and verbal abuse, sexual battery and emotional distress.
A trial on alleged sexual battery and abuse is due to go on trial later this year.
Twigs, real name Tahliah Debrett Barnett, has now spoken about their relationship and subsequent breakup, and said she initially 'thought it would be like ay other break-up'.
She thought 'I'd be sad for six months to a year, and then one day I'd wake up and everything would be fine.
'But the fact is being abused changes the whole of your nervous system.'
The star told British Vogue for her cover issue that the 'window of tolerance is now much smaller than it used to be, my body manifests stress in quite extreme ways – it really shows me when it's upset.'
She has learned to be 'very compassionate with myself' and is listening to her body 'to get better'.
Twigs filed a lawsuit against LaBeouf in 2020 alleging physical and emotional abuse and claiming he was a danger to women, alleging he had slammed her into a car, tried to strangle her and knowingly gave her a sexually transmitted disease.
His lawyers said at the time that he did not cause her harm and denied all the allegations.
In an interview with New York Times after the lawsuit was filed, LaBeouf said: 'I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalizations. I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years.
'I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I'm ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say.'
The suit had been due to take place in 2023 however has been delayed to 2024, with a tentative start date in October this year.
