A newly expanded recycling service in the UK allows residents to get up to £283 for a PS5 and other consoles.
There are many ways to sell unwanted gaming consoles, but not many are good for the environment.
Virgin Media O2 has announced that the O2 Recycle service now accepts gaming systems like PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, and Oculus VR headsets, as well as MacBooks, smartphones, tablets, wearable technology, and earbuds.
You can trade in your unwanted consoles for money. A fully working PlayStation 5 can get you up to £283, while a Nintendo Switch OLED model can get you up to £110, and a regular Switch is worth up to £92.
Xbox consoles can also be traded in for cash. An Xbox Series X can fetch up to £238, while an Xbox Series S is worth up to £80.
The service also accepts PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, but they are worth much less (the PS3 Slim model with 250GB is only worth £3, while the original model is worth nothing at all).
On the Oculus front, the Oculus Quest 2 headset with 256GB is worth the most, at up to £65, while the Oculus Rift S is worth up to £60. You can find more prices and details here.
According to O2 Recycle, all the unwanted technology you send will be repaired, refurbished, and resold or recycled, with zero parts going to a landfill.
This initiative is a response to new research showing that 83% of gamers have unwanted consoles they’re keeping, and around 18 million consoles are unused across the UK.
A survey by Recycle Your Electricals found that 75% of people would recycle their console if they were paid, and 51% would do it to reduce e-waste and protect the planet.
