A British paraglider has been taken by helicopter to the hospital after experiencing a serious accident in southern Spain.
The man, said to be about 40, fell to the ground soon after take-off and landed on rocks.
Colleagues called the emergency services, who brought in police, paramedics, and firefighters.
An air ambulance was called to pick him up at the crash site, but instead went to a nearby helipad to take him to the hospital.
The victim was moved away from the scene as a precaution against potential spinal injuries and is reported to have sustained multiple injuries to his back and arms.
He was taken to Reina Sofia Hospital in the city of Cordoba, but his current condition remains uncertain.
The incident occurred just before 3pm yesterday, seconds after the unnamed Brit took off from the summit of the Sierra de Aras Mountain, near Lucena in southern Spain.
The 2,750-high lookout spot has a baroque church called the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Araceli.
The British holidaymaker was apparently part of a group organized by a German firm that specializes in paragliding trips for beginners and occasional pilots.
Footage taken at the scene showed him being moved away with a neck brace on and attached to a drip, surrounded by local police, Civil Guard, and medical experts.
They used a rope to haul him up the steep hill below the mountain summit where he crashed to the ground, and footage showed he was conscious and responding to orders from the emergency workers surrounding him.
The Sierra de Aras is one of the main paleontological sites in the province of Cordoba.
Popular visitor activities include paragliding, hand gliding, potholing, and mountain biking.
