Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) praised President Biden on Sunday following the president’s State of the Union address and criticized former President Trump for focusing on himself and his legal issues during his election campaign.
“Joe Biden is experienced and reliable. He’s dealt with this nonsense before,” Warnock stated in an NBC “Meet the Press” interview with Kristen Welker. “He faced it the other night with the opposition heckling during the president’s speech, and he carried on because he’s not concentrating on himself.”
“Unlike his opponent, he’s not concerned about what this election means for him, as Donald Trump avoids legal consequences,” he added. “He’s focused on what this election means for the American people, the people of Georgia. And he passionately spoke about the future the other night.”
During his State of the Union speech on Thursday, Biden criticized Trump for being self-centered while presenting a positive outlook for his reelection, emphasizing policy achievements and objectives.
The speech was well-received by Democrats as Biden intensifies his criticism of Trump as the general election season enters a crucial phase. The president also emphasized the high stakes of the 2024 election.
“Not since President Lincoln and the Civil War has freedom and democracy been under attack here at home as they are today,” Biden stated in the speech. “What makes our moment unique is that freedom and democracy are under assault, both domestically and internationally, at the same time.”
Trump is facing several criminal cases, including two federal cases accusing him of mishandling classified documents and attempting to overturn the 2020 election results.
