The former Patriots cornerback, Malcolm Butler, revealed his retirement during a gathering in Houston over the weekend.
Butler stated, “I am retired,” during the event. According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, Butler mentioned, “I did the best I could. Walking away from the game feels right. Everyone can do more, but I’m content with my career. It’s time to move on and transition.”Butler hadn't played in an NFL game since 2020. He made comeback attempts with the Cardinals in 2021 and the Patriots in 2022. He will be remembered for making a crucial interception in Super Bowl XLIX and for being benched in Super Bowl LII. Butler entered the league as an undrafted rookie in 2014.
After rejoining the team in 2022, Butler disclosed that he had discussed his benching with Belichick but chose not to share details.
Butler commented, “You can’t dwell on the past all the time. So I’ve moved forward from that. I know it’ll always be there, but I haven’t said anything to anybody about anything. So you’re going to have keep doing your research or whatever you gotta do, because I’m here for the Patriots and I’m here to be peaceful.”
A renowned figure in the Patriots history has decided to end his career.
