Pete Buttigieg, the Secretary of Transportation, praised President Biden's State of the Union speech on Sunday, describing the president as being in control. He mentioned that anyone who watched the address would have seen a leader in command.
In an interview with George Stephanopoulos on ABC News's “This Week,” Buttigieg brushed off criticism from Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.) regarding her response to Biden’s State of the Union address.
Buttigieg mentioned that he understands response addresses are prepared before the State of the Union and are usually not changed based on the actual address.
According to Buttigieg, anyone who saw President Biden's address would have observed a leader who is in control, displaying strength and a clear vision, not only in the content but also in the delivery of his remarks.
When asked about how Biden can represent “change” at 81 years old, Buttigieg referred to the importance of the age of a leader’s ideas rather than their actual age. He highlighted Biden’s stances on issues like climate change, LGBTQ equality, and reproductive rights as evidence of his commitment to change.
Regarding Biden's impact, Buttigieg pointed to areas significant to newer generations, such as climate change. He mentioned an incident during the State of the Union where some Congressional Republicans expressed skepticism about climate change despite Biden's claims, citing this as an example of the saying that the age of a leader’s ideas is what truly matters.
He also mentioned that the age of a leader's ideas is crucial, using the example of climate change during the State of the Union address.
