Mike Rawlings, the No Labels convention chair, stated that the Democrats will be severely beaten by Trump's 'Trump train' in the upcoming election, when responding to concerns that the group's entry into the 2024 race could sway the contest in favor of the 45th president.
Rawlings told CNN's Michael Smerconish that they will be overwhelmed by the Donald Trump Train and emphasized that they did not put the Democrats in this position. He suggested taking a different approach by discussing common sense issues and leadership, and taking accountability in the country.
Rawlings, the former Mayor of Dallas, argued against criticism that No Labels, a political group formed to garner support for a third-party presidential ticket, would be to blame if their efforts to potentially run a 'unity ticket' results in enough votes shifting from President Biden to Trump, causing Trump to reclaim the White House.
Rawlings expressed fascination with the theoretical fear-mongering about No Labels preventing America from descending into chaos, emphasizing that it's the Democrats' actions that have led to this situation.
No Labels decided Rawlings announced the decision on Friday to formally enter the 2024 race during a private meeting, which was affirmed by hundreds of state delegates. They highlighted polls indicating a willingness among voters to consider independent and third-party candidates. The decision came shortly after Super Tuesday election results suggested a close race between Biden and Trump, reminiscent of the 2020 contest.
In response to accusations that No Labels might act as a 'spoiler' in 2024, Rawlings argued that the Democrats are blaming the wrong group and should take responsibility for choosing Biden as their nominee again.
Rawlings, the former CEO of Pizza Hut and a long-time Democrat, disagreed with the idea that No Labels is at fault, attributing the situation to the Democrats' choice of candidate and flawed talking points. He stated that No Labels is merely representing the common sense majority that seeks a better solution.
Following the private meeting on Friday, it was reported that Geoff Duncan, the former Republican lieutenant governor of Georgia, could potentially be on the ticket, as per the Wall Street Journal. The Wall Street Journal reported that Duncan is meeting with Republican donors this weekend, with the meetings arranged by No Labels. The Hill reached out to No Labels for comment about this development. ABC News.
Duncan served as the state’s lieutenant governor from 2019 to 2023. He has been critical of Trump despite being a Republican.
Meanwhile, in an op-ed in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Duncan expressed concern about the potential 2024 election showdown between a frail President Joe Biden and an increasingly unhinged Trump, who might be a convicted felon by Election Day 2024.
No Labels convention chair Mike Rawlings stated that Democrats will be heavily defeated by the former President’s “Trump train” when addressing criticism that the group’s involvement in the 2024 race would shift the competition and return the Oval Office to the 45th president. “We’re gonna get run over by the Donald Trump Train,” Rawlings… Atlanta Journal-Constitution last month. “An increasingly frail President Joe Biden versus an increasingly unhinged Trump, who could be a convicted felon before Election Day 2024.”
