Dame Prue Leith that had Alex Jones gasping and giggling in surprise when she shared some rather strong language about her husband on Friday’s The One Show.
The Great British Bake Off judge, 84, appeared on the early evening programme to talk about her new Saturday morning cooking show for ITV, Prue Leith’s Cotswold Kitchen.
Thanks to its at-home premise, the cooking expert will be joined onscreen by her husband, retired fashion designer John Playfair.
It turns out that John, 77, is quite natural in front of the camera, which made his TV personality wife.
Alex, who was co-hosting with Roman Kemp, brought up the ‘brand new celebrity’ involved on Dame Prue’s show, to which she replied: ‘I know.’
‘I’m frankly p***ed off about it,’ the chef added to a chorus of gasps and guffaws.
As the show cut to footage from Dame Prue’s new kitchen-based show, Alex exclaimed: ‘Well Prue Leith, you can’t say that on The One Show! It’s a family show!’
She and Roman could then be heard laughing along with the crew as Dame Prue then hastily apologised.
‘I’m sorry! I’m very unhappy about it because he has turned out to be an absolute star,’ she admitted.
‘I mean, I thought I was being really kind as it’s at home, in our house, so the least I can let him do is be in it – or ask him if he’d like to be in it.’
Dame Prue continued: ‘Well, he turns out to be an absolute natural! I keep on wanting to say, “Look, I’m supposed to be the telly star around here!”’
She then revealed, grudgingly: ‘I can see if we ever get a second series, it’ll be John Playfair’s Cotswold Kitchen and I’ll get a walk-on part…’
Her accidental strong language had viewers cracking up at home.
‘Prue Leith swearing live on the one show at 7:30pm has sent me west,’ shared Kathryn McGoldrick on X.
‘Omg #prue swearing on the one show,’ added Sharon Luff, alongside smiling and laughing emoji, while another fan commented: ‘Live TV has never been so good.’
‘Prue Leith saying “p***ed off” on the One Show is everything,’ tweeted Hannah Cassidy.
The Bake Off star was married to her first husband, Rayne Kruger, for almost 30 years until his death in 2002.
She and John met at a dinner party and tied the knot in 2016.
Prue Leith’s Cotswold Kitchen airs on Saturday at 11:40am on ITV. The One Show airs weekdays from 7pm on BBC One.
