Barcelona have started discussions to acquire Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood, as per reports in Spain.
Greenwood has been on loan at Getafe this season after United chose not to let him return to the first team last summer.
The 22-year-old has not played for United since he was arrested in January 2022 for alleged attempted rape, controlling behaviour, and assault.
Greenwood had all charges against him dropped last February and United had considered reintegrating him into Erik ten Hag’s squad before facing significant criticism from supporters regarding his comeback.
The forward has excelled during his loan stint at Getafe and reportedly, this has piqued Barcelona's interest ahead of the summer transfer window. Sport, The report alleges that Barcelona have made an initial approach to gather more details about Greenwood’s situation but have not yet entered into formal negotiations with United.

However, United’s new co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe,
has not ruled out the possibility of Greenwood’s return and has indicated that a new decision will be made about the forward’s future at Old Trafford Meanwhile, Getafe’s president mentioned that.
Greenwood desires to stay with the Spanish club for another season ‘He has a clear conscience, he is very comfortable, and eager to stay for another year,’ stated Getafe president Angel Torres..
‘It’s a matter that they [United] have to decide. There is new ownership. They have to decide.
‘In Spain he has a market but they [Barcelona] have money. Barca’s style of play would suit him well, but it depends on Manchester United. If it’s true, he’ll inform me.’
