Rajon Rondo, a two-time NBA champion, was arrested in Indiana over the weekend for allegedly having a firearm and drugs.
According to a news release from Indiana State Police on Tuesday morning, Rondo, 37, was driving a black 2022 Tesla when a trooper pulled him over around 1 p.m. on Sunday after a driver reported seeing the car driving recklessly on Interstate 65 southbound in Bartholomew County.
During the traffic stop, the trooper detected the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle and conducted a search, which led to the discovery of marijuana, drug-related items, and a firearm in Rondo's possession. According to the police, Rondo is not allowed to have the firearm due to a protection order against him.
A minor who was in the car was released to a family member, according to the department release.
Rondo faces misdemeanor charges for having marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a firearm while being prohibited. He was taken to Jackson County jail and was later released after posting bond. The police department stated that a date for his initial court appearance will be determined soon.
A player who was selected for the All-Star game four times and played for nine different teams during his 16-year career, Rondo contributed to the Los Angeles Lakers' NBA championship win in 2020. He previously played for the Boston Celtics, which triumphed over the Lakers in the 2008 NBA Finals, and also competed for the Celtics in the 2010 Finals, where they were defeated by the Lakers.
He also had stints with the Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers, and Cleveland Cavaliers. His final season in the league was 2021-22.
