The Chicago White Sox appointed John Schriffen as the new television play-by-play broadcaster on Thursday, filling the opening in the booth.
Schriffen, 39, will be announcing games on NBC Sports Chicago with analyst Steve Stone under a multiyear deal.
Schriffen has provided coverage for various sports including Major League Baseball, NCAA basketball, and football for ESPN, joining in 2020 to cover the Korean Baseball Organization.
In a statement, Schriffen expressed his excitement for becoming the play-by-play voice of the Chicago White Sox, considering it an ultimate dream and a humbling responsibility given the talented broadcasters who have previously worked White Sox games.
Schriffen looks forward to partnering with Steve Stone to call Sox games this season and getting to know White Sox fans.
He takes over the position after Jason Benetti became the voice of the Detroit Tigers.
Prior to joining ESPN, Schriffen worked for the NFL Network as a studio host and anchor, as well as a play-by-play broadcaster and sideline reporter for CBS Sports.
Schriffen, who is biracial, becomes the second Black television play-by-play announcer in MLB along with Seattle’s Dave Sims, according to the Sox. The Dartmouth graduate pitched for the baseball team.
Brooks Boyer, White Sox chief revenue and marketing officer, commented on Schriffen's talent and national experience, emphasizing the team's commitment to delivering professional and engaging broadcasts.
Boyer also expressed confidence in John and Steve Stone, along with the production team at NBC Sports Chicago, to continue the legacy and tradition of the great White Sox teams in the booth.
